58 km south of Amman and 120 meters
below
sea level, is the thermal mineral hot springs and
waterfalls, where Herod the Great was said to have
bathed in its medicinal water, and where people have
come for thermal treatments, or simply to enjoy a hot
soak, since the days of Rome.
Visitors to the Dead Sea should also
take advantage of the other nearby marvel, Hammamat
Ma'en (Ma'en Hot Springs). Admired by both locals and
tourists, the springs are located 264 meters below sea
level in one of the most breath-taking desert oases in
the world. Thousands of visiting bathers come each year
to enjoy the mineral rich waters of these hyper-thermal
waterfalls. These falls originate from winter rainfalls
in the highland plains of Jordan and eventually feed the
109 hot and cold springs in the valley. The temperature
of water is between 40C to 60C and contains different
kinds of minerals such as potassium, magnesium and
calcium. There are hot spa pools, natural and artificial
saunas and it is heated to temperatures up to 63 degrees
Celsius by underground lava fissures as it makes its way
through the valley before emptying into the Zarqa River.
Situated in this exquisite spot
is the 94 room Janna Spa and Resort offering a wide
variety of professional services including mud
wrappings, hydro jet baths and showers, underwater
massages, mud facials, electrotherapy and cosmetology
treatments. Furthermore, it is a natural clinic
providing treatment for people with skin diseases, blood
circulatory problems and bone, joints, back and muscular
pains.
