On the right, behind 4 standing Corinthian columns is
Jerash's only known Umayyad Mosque. This was built in
the 7th or 8th century, using materials from the
colonnaded atrium of a Roman house that stood there.
This Umayyad building supports the theory that the newly
arrived Muslims lived in reasonable harmony with the
city's Christian inhabitants. |
