It was opened in 1980, and hold remains dating from the Neolithic, Moabite, Nabatean up to the late Islamic and crusader periods gathered from the Karak and Tafileh regions.

Some of the collections are remains of skeletons and pottery from the Bab adh-Dhra graves, Iron Age II artifacts from Buseirah, Byzantine glass vessels and inscriptions, Roman and Nabatean artifacts from Rabbah and Qasr as well as articles dating from 6000BC to the 14th century AD.
