Madaba Archaeological Museum
Located down a small alley a few blocks
south of St. George's church the museum was
established in 1987 on the site of several
old houses which were built on mosaic floors
and the ruins of an ancient chapel.
The mosaics are the main attraction, some
already exist on the site, and others were
brought from surrounding areas for
conservation and preservation as well ass
display.
The museum contains other interesting
collections:
Wide collection of pottery, glass from
Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic
periods.
lonian and Corinthian capitals and a number
of Byzantine altars.
An important collection Islamic pottery and
bronze vessels found inside a room of the
Umm al-Walid.
There is also a collection of silver
Ptolemaic coins from Muraba' at Musa and a
collection of gold Umayyad dinars.
The folklore Exhibit
Located within the Madaba archaeological
museum and like all traditional exhibits it
aims to represent the culture and heritage
of the Jordanian people living in Madaba
through displaying the traditional costumes
of locals dating back to various ages, gold
and silver jewellery, cosmetic items,
weapons, rugs and other traditional
household items.

Opening hours: 8AM - 7PM in the summer, 8AM
- 4 PM in the winter, 8AM - 3:00PM in
Ramadan, 10AM - 4PM Fridays & official
holidays
Closing days: first day of Eid El-Fiseh &
Eid Al-Adha
Entrance fees: includes the entrance fees to
the archaeological park
